It’s rare to see dancers from different ballet companies take the stage together, but here they are side by side: Principal Ballerina Sara Mearns from the NYC ballet, and Calvin Royal III of American Ballet Theatre living in tandem before director Ezra Hurwitz’s iPhone 11 Pro. Amongst the first videos to be shot on the device, Hurwitz’s mini-narrative captures a rare glimpse into the daily lives of athletes with a cheeky overlay of monochromatic interiors and costuming. The film begins with Mearns and Royall's morning routine, and soon transitions to a wider frame where they are joined by dancers Gonzalo Garcia and Isabella Boylston. The end result calls to mind the aesthetics of Maurizio Cattelan's Toiletpaper brought to life.
