The Valentino Rockstud is back and more piercing than ever, 10 years after it first arrived on the scene. For Valentino’s Interferenze Fall/Winter 2027 collection, creative director Alessandro Michele reimagined the house staple with the Rockstud Spike Bag, now featuring altered proportions and richer embellishment (a more-is-more Michele approach, of course). The familiar handbag retains its adjustable chain strap and hand-applied platinum-finish studs, but was given a longer horizontal silhouette and updated accessorizing; goatskin leather and suede editions are now available in a dealer’s choice of colorways including black, warm grey, orange, and ochre.
First introduced in 2010 under former co-creative directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, the pyramid-shaped Rockstud initially appeared on footwear before entering the company of the house’s most popular and defining accessory codes, migrating throughout the decades onto bags and ready-to-wear. When that unmistakable hardware and quilted canvas melded into the Rockstud Spike Bag, it quickly became one of Valentino’s most recognizable accessories.
Since then, the studs haven’t exactly been sitting quietly in the archive. The opening moments of last year’s Devil Wears Prada 2 teaser tracked a pair of scarlet Valentino Rockstud pumps clicking through the Runway office on the feet of Meryl Streep (perhaps one of fashion’s buzziest walks in recent memory).

Michele is now looking to give the signature studs new life, rather than just legacy affection. He’s taken the Rockstud Spike Bag in two additional, more decorative directions for its latest rendition—perfect for those who reliably come to Michele for his flashes of eccentricity. One is made with black nappa leather, coated in floral and butterfly embroidery, as well as an archival nine-dot motif. The other uses contrasting rhombus-shaped panels and zigzag stitching to fashion a harlequin-inspired Valentino pattern.
The new bags are now available across global Valentino boutiques and online, winking from their pride of place in store displays at those shoppers who remember their first heyday not too long ago. This one, they seem to promise, will be even more memorable than the last.
