The Berlin-based DJ and musician is forever upping the ante on horse-girldom. Ahead of her tour this fall, she reveals the deep thoughts and giddy antics hidden behind her mask.

Conceived somewhere between a pasture and a recording studio, the reverse-centaur you know as horsegiirL’s origin story is shared only in fragments: a childhood on Sunshine Farms, a discovery by “Whitney Horston” at a harvest festival, a wave of attention with early releases “Farm Fantasies”and “Pegasus” in 2022, before a subsequent rise to global touring status after her TikTok-fueled viral track “My Barn My Rules” took the bi- and quadrupedal communities by storm.

With the release of her debut album, NATURE IS HEALING, this past summer, the German DJ and musician has hit a steady gallop—one CULTURED sat down to unpack in a hotel room confessional.

When did you first realize life might be better lived as a horse?

Life is precious and wondrous, no matter the form it takes. But I guess horses prioritize frolic and grazing over taxes and war, which is quite nice.

What’s something your fans would be surprised to learn about life in the stable?

The stable is not just a paradise that lies there like a rock. It is paradise because it has to be made over and over again. It has to be tended to.

Are horses into astrology? If so, what’s your sign, and how much of your personality do you blame on it?

I have a song called “Starsiigns”! I’m a Taurus. I’m quite grounded and determined, so these things check out. But I believe we are obviously also the product of our environment, genetic predispositions, and will.

German DJ and musician horsegiirL talks about her new album, NATURE IS HEALING, and her time in the barn.

What’s the ideal birthday celebration at Sunshine Farms?

Friends come over, the sun is shining, we listen to music and dance barefoot in the grass, someone makes a fantastic cake, and we get tipsy on apple wine.

If you could invite three guests—dead, alive, or animated—to a barn rave, who gets the call?

Bibble from Barbie: Fairytopia, Paris Hilton, and Sexyy Red.

What turns you on and off in other people?

I love genuine people who wear their hearts on their sleeves, laugh without holding back, and love with a passion. The ones who aren’t afraid to exist with all their messiness and retain softness in a tough world. I’m really turned off by arrogance, nonchalance, and people who can never have a genuine moment because they’re always doing some sort of bit.

If you had a warning label, what would it say?

Full of shenanigans!
