On one of the first brisk autumn nights in New York, playwright Max Wolf Friedlich took advantage of the pleasant weather to toast The Holes opening night with a coterie of representatives from the downtown theater scene. The new off-Broadway play, executive produced by Robert Pattinson’s Icki Eneo Arlo, opened at Wild Project on Sept. 22—reuniting Friedlich with former Job collaborator Michael Herwitz. The Ace Bar after-party carried the East Village crowd well past curtain call, providing a fitting kickoff for a packed run slated through Oct. 18.

The Scene: The crowd mingled with the regular late-night revelry of the East Village, celebrating the opening of The Holes with drinks, conversation, and an after-party that spilled out the door.

Food & Drink: A special-ordered pizza emblazoned with “The Holes” made the the rounds in the room to much fanfare, as Ace Bar supplemented the slices with celebratory rounds of festive refreshments.

The Crowd: The evening brought together Friedlich and Herwitz; actors Ivy Wolk, Matty Matheson, Dominic Sessa, Grantham Coleman, Tina Benko, and Jack Mulhern; comedians Hannah Solow, Evan Lazarus, Josh Sharp, Courtney O’Donnell, Keara Sullivan, and Richard Perez; and editor Willa Bennett.

Cause for FOMO: The play’s opening night promised a buzzy run to come. With a limited engagement already in motion, get your tickets before they’re gone.
