Sofia Coppola and Lisa Yuskavage share an abiding interest in depicting the experience and aftershocks of girlhood—that’s why, when art-world power couple Rachel Feinstein and John Currin introduced the pair years ago, an immediate kinship emerged.
Coppola, who owns a small Yuskavage lithograph, sees much of her own work in the artist’s. “I’m drawn to Lisa’s work, but I can’t express why in words. It’s a feeling. I admire her boldness and relate to how she sticks to the worlds that she’s into,” she notes.
Here, she selects four paintings included in Yuskavage’s David Zwirner show earlier this year that have stayed with her.
