Three years ago, Maximilian Davis debuted a bag collection that has had lovers of the Italian house clamoring. Now, a new style joins the “Hug” family.

A year into his tenure at Ferragamo, Maximilian Davis unveiled the Hug bag on the runway as part of his Fall/Winter 2023 collection. It’s fairly clear where the design—one of the young designer’s most recognizable contributions yet to the Italian label’s legacy—gets its name.

An ample, asymmetrical body is bracketed by two leather arms that wrap around the front of the bag in an embrace secured by the house’s iconic gold-tone Gancini closures. This season, the Hug bag collection welcomes a newcomer: the Hug East-West shoulder bag.

Crafted in sleek, modern proportions with a utilitarian sensibility, the latest iteration of the design boasts an elegant handle that slips neatly over the arm and an elongated body in supple calfskin leather that unzips to reveal a capacious interior in a contrasting hue. Made of more than 100 individual pieces—leather, metal, and otherwise—it’s the most elaborate hug you’ll ever receive.
