Last Friday evening, CULTURED Editor-in-Chief Sarah Harrelson sat down with a cadre of influential collectors—Tiffany Zabludowicz, Arts Editor-at-Large Sophia Cohen, and Victoria Rogers—to explore the evolving role of women shaping today’s art market. Hosted in partnership with Christie’s at Rockefeller Center, ahead of the house’s blockbuster Marquee Week sales (including a record-breaking $1.1 billion night), the conversation unfolded against the backdrop of a cadre of precious works headed to the auction block. Many were sourced from the collections of legendary female patrons including Agnes Gund, Marian Goodman, Lorinda de Roulet, and Marilyn Arison.

The Scene: A polished swirl of collectors and art-world fixtures moved through Christie’s Rockefeller Center galleries, eyeing masterpieces at every turn, before settling in for an engaging tête-à-tête that revealed the practices and time-honored truths of a seasoned patron.

What You Missed: Exclusively for the event’s guests, Christie’s offered a round of timely remarks from Senior Vice President Isabella Lauria, who is also leading the 21st Century Sale (which includes the collection of Marian Goodman) on May 20.

The Entertainment: An incisive, curated conversation led by Harrelson, touching on generational shifts in collecting, the increasing influence of women in shaping institutional taste, and how today’s patrons are developing their legacies through a new model of cultural visibility and artistic championship.

Guests take in the discussion at Christie’s.

Parting Gift: Copies of CULTURED‘s highly-anticipated CULT100 issue were available to peruse and take home, an artful extension of the evening’s conversation.

Cause for FOMO: The chance to take in a billion dollars’ worth of masterpieces in a truly intimate setting, as guests peeked at the rarities on view in Christie’s galleries, positioned for primetime viewing in advance of the week’s auctions.
