This year, the Bass Museum of Art dialed up the decadence. Its annual black-tie gala, the Bass Ball: Discothèque, last week honored Rachel Feinstein and the collective Assume vivid astro focus (AVAF) in a dazzling ode to ’70s disco glam. The event transformed the Miami Beach institution into a shimmering time capsule—filled with tastemakers, artisans, and philanthropists alike—complete with bold decor by Alejandro Muguerza and immersive performances.
The evening’s theme was inspired by the museum's current exhibitions: Feinstein’s “The Miami Years” and AVAF’s “XI,” which both explore identity and body politics with references pulled from the ’70s and ’80s cultural narratives. Guests did their best to adhere to the retro dress code as well, adorned in their most fashion-forward interpretations of the "Discothèque" theme, and swirling through a night of art, music, and dramatics.
The evening kicked off with lively entertainment by Tiffany Fantasia, followed by an unforgettable surprise performance by Canadian disco group Lime, best known for their hit “Your Love.” All proceeds raised will go toward the museum’s education and outreach programs, as well as future exhibitions. As Executive Director Silvia Karman Cubiñá told CULTURED earlier this winter, “With new communities of full- and part-time residents moving to the area, plus a generation of young adults raised alongside Art Basel Miami Beach, the Bass has become a place for people to get together and connect while seeing art.” This recent event was a triumphant celebration of that boundless potential.
