The best way to ring in Labor Day weekend? Cocktails, Peter Marino, and a whole lot of art.

Guests flooded the Peter Marino Art Foundation for an exclusive gathering—co-hosted with real estate developer Mast Capital and small batch tequila brand Casa Dragones—to celebrate the visionary architect’s role as guest editor and cover star of CULTURED’s August Hamptons issue.

Within the limited edition’s pages, Marino took readers on a tour of his favorite local spots (including a few storefronts designed by the man himself), talked to artist McArthur Binion about his expansive practice, and offered a preview of his new tome Ten Modern Houses. Mast Capital, known for its dedication to elevating cultural and artistic endeavors, played a pivotal role in curating the event's intimate exploration of art, architecture, and Marino's unique vision.

Spotted amongst the crowd were writer Bob Colacello, curator Estrellita B. Brodsky, designer Billy Cotton, advisor Rob Teeters, ceramicist Bruce M. Sherman, artist Enoc Perez, photographer Sophie Elgort, Another Tomorrow’s Vanessa Barboni Hallik, producer Debi Wisch, and the Mack Art Foundation’s Christine Mack.

The evening kicked off with two curated tours of the foundation, where attendees were treated to an intimate look at Marino's stunning collection of contemporary art and design, housed within the meticulously restored Rogers Memorial Library building. The foundation, curated by Marino himself, showcases a diverse array of mediums—including paintings, sculptures, drawings, photography, and ceramics—spanning from 3500 BC to the present day. Meticulously developed over more than four decades, the collection exemplifies Marino’s dedication to both historical and contemporary art.

The foundation itself serves as a testament to Marino's multifaceted talents. Guests admired the collection while sipping cocktails made with Casa Dragones, a long-standing friend of the arts with past collaborators including Pedro Reyes, Gabriel Orozco, and Petrit Halilaj, as well as partnerships with fairs like Art Basel Miami Beach.

Attendees perused the foundation's bookstore, which features Marino's own creations. "We sell my miniature bronze boxes, made in a forge in France, as well as a selection of art and photography books and unique objects that could make very cool hostess gifts or wedding presents," Marino told CULTURED in the issue.

Renowned for his innovative approach to architecture and interior design, Marino is celebrated for his distinctive style, which marries bold, industrial elements with a refined, luxurious aesthetic. Outside the Hamptons, Marino’s portfolio includes iconic projects such as the new 10-story Tiffany & Co. flagship in New York, Chanel’s ground-up building in Los Angeles, and the Cheval Blanc hotel in Paris’s historic La Samaritaine.

Back in 2022, the architect divulged the secret to his enduring success to CULTURED. It was a surprisingly simple recipe: “Talent and hard work.” As guests trickled out of the festivities last night, Mast Capital gift bag in hand, they were sure to take with them that magic of Marino's, the lively conversations had, and a bolstered commitment to the Hamptons arts ecosystem.
