Whether it’s Zendaya’s recent high-profile turn as a tennis starlet or the warm weather finally rolling across the country, all eyes are on the confluence of breezy sports garments and high fashion styling. It’s beyond timely then that Vince has launched a Pre-Fall collection rife with athletic touchpoints—ribbed contrast hems and slouched shorts among them—inspired by a sift through family photographs from the ‘70s.
Yesterday, friends of the brand and CULTURED gathered in Beverly Hills for an intimate viewing of the collection and an early summer fête hosted by Vince Creative Director Caroline Belhumeur and Editor-in-Chief Sarah Harrelson. There—in a space curated by Vince with pieces from Atelier de Troupe, MIDCENTURYLA, and The Window—the designer shared the process behind her latest creations, which harken back to an era where the aesthetics of gym classes and workout crazes ran rampant. Now, those unwieldy inspirations have been distilled into a series of garments that feel just as fitting on Fifth Avenue as on the court.
“I’m always thinking about how people are living in their clothes,” Belhumeur told CULTURED in the magazine’s latest print issue. “It’s so important to be curious and to look at things in fresh ways. In many ways, getting dressed can feel like putting on a different version of yourself.” For the event, the designer paired a strapless black dress with a blazer for the slight breeze outside, while Harrelson donned a pleated silk set from the brand.
Other guests—including stylists Angela Fink and Lauren Preston; model Grace Kennedy Piehl; artists Hilary Pecis, Jen Guidi, Brooklin Soumahoro, and Kohshin Finley; creative directors Kendall Conrad and Olivia Lopez; Eyeswoon’s Sacha Strebe; AirMail's Harrison Vail; The Future Perfect's David Alhadeff; writer Lauren Caruso; entrepreneur Adrien Dewulf, Claude Home’s Maggie Holladay; fashion commentator TyLynn Nguyen; stylist Rebecca Ramsey; advisor Graham Steele; actor Ali Ahn; gallerist Carlye Packer; and Gagosian’s Sophia Cohen—perused the pieces on display while enjoying cocktails, as well as Pure Beauty's THC-infused Little Strong Drink beverages and pre-rolls, which were passed around the space.
As the sun set over the hills, attendees made their way inside to the photo booth and small bites. A few lingered on the patio listening to the tail end of a silky smooth set by DJ Ross One. When the last holdouts finally trickled off into the night, one thing was certain: the evening stood as the perfect start to the hot LA summer ahead, and guests had met the perfect garments to weather the season in style.
