On Monday morning, amid a captivating juxtaposition of rain-drenched skies and electrifying anticipation, Peter Philips ushered guests into an intimate West Hollywood venue. The Dior Makeup Creative and Image Director was on the West Coast to unveil Dior Beauty's Rouge lipstick relaunch to the French house's inner circle.
Inside, Philips guided guests through detailed demonstrations, spotlighting the lipsticks' ingredients and dynamic palette. As the mastermind behind the collection, he encouraged the Dior devotees to swatch the alluring shades between sips of their matcha lattes.
The relaunch ushers in a kaleidoscope of 70 couture colors, meticulously curated to celebrate their wearers' individuality. Inspired by the diversity of nude lips, Philips and the Dior Makeup team spearheaded global research with the mission of finding the perfect shade of red. They tapped over 800 women to investigate their lipstick preferences, crafting a formula that's as enduring as it is enriching. With two finishes, Satin and Velvet, the product effortlessly complements all complexions, guaranteeing that every client finds their perfect match.
“Built on the knowledge found in our research, I created a range of easy-to-wear, easy-to-apply, non-intimidating shades,” Philips told CULTURED at the event. “All 70 shades are more soft and natural, with a neutral and effortless feel.”
Appointed to his current role in 2014, Philips works to infuse the brand's ethos of savoir-faire innovation with a timeless sense of modernity. The Belgian-born director's past creations include crafting oversized red lips for Alexander McQueen's Autumn/Winter 2009 runway show, a show-stopping moment celebrating the power of a pout.
The campaign accompanying Rouge Dior's relaunch features actors Yara Shahidi, Rachel Zegler, Anya Taylor Joy, and Dilraba Dilmurat dressed in stunning red outfits against a stark white background. Their captivating presence highlights the je-ne-sais-quoi of these rich lip colors and the innate power of the color red.
Later that day, the rain did not stop guests from celebrating the relaunch at La Dolce Vita in Beverly Hills. In the sleek velveteen room, campaign muses Anya Taylor Joy and Rachel Zegler joined Philips and a star-studded entourage of Dior patrons including Alexandra Daddario, Alexandra Shipp, Awkwafina, Brie Larson, Dominique Fishback, Lucy Hale, Monica Barbaro, and Simona Tabasco. Revelers mingled and discussed their lipstick matches over bucatini al limone and torta al cioccolato, a sweet ending to a festive day.
